Switches in BDSM – The term switch is used by those in the S/M community for those people who alternate the role of a bottom/submissive and top/dominant. This is usually done out of necessity because there are many more bottoms than tops, others simly enjoy the role change. It is also often the case that people refuse to submit to a top who has not learned empathy and S/M techniques gained from first being a bottom.
