South Dakota was settled by fur traders in the early 1800s. In 1861, Congress created the Dakota Territory, which included present day South Dakota and North Dakota. In 1874, Lieutenant Colonel George Custer was sent by the United States government to the Black Hills to find out whether rumors of gold in the hills were true.
Custer and his men did find gold, and a gold rush began. More gold was found in 1876 and more prospectors rushed to join the search. As the region's population grew, its residents pushed for statehood. South Dakota is truely a place of great faces with great places like the Swingers Clubs of South Dakota.
In 1889, South Dakota became the 40th state and in 2003 joined the South Dakota Swingers Association at IA Members.
